calcite-clj - Use Apache Calcite from Clojure

Clojars project

Small library to facilitate the implementation of calcite adapters in clojure.

Calcite allows you to expose any structured data as a SQL table and use SQL to query that data (relational algebra).

It implements org.apache.calcite.schema.SchemaFactory and delegates to a Clojure function. See https://calcite.apache.org/javadocAggregate/org/apache/calcite/schema/SchemaFactory.html and https://calcite.apache.org/docs/tutorial.html for more information.

How to use

The library is published on Clojars and docs are published on https://cljdoc.org/d/io.github.ieugen/calcite-clj/0.1.14/doc/readme . You can find there instructions on how to add the library to your tools.deps, Maven and gradle, etc.

See examples/simple for a Clojure implementataion that expose Clojure vectors and interogates them with SQL.

Part of the magic is in model.json file.

It’s important to set the "factory" property to "ro.ieugen.calcite.clj.SchemaFactory" and also set an operand "clojure-clj.schema-factory" with value "calcite-clj.simple/my-schema" . Use your own schema function there.

In our case, clojure-clj.schema-factory property is a reference to the Clojure namespace (calcite-clj.simple) and function (my-schema) to call for generating the org.apache.calcite.schema.Schema.

The schema factory is generic and if there is interest I would like to contribute it upstream. It allows the use of Clojure functions to be used as Schema factories thus creating a bridge to Clojure in a seamless way.
