JavaScript is a cross-platform, object-oriented scripting language. It was invented in 1995 to add dynamic components to websites, and it has been the backbone of the interactive web ever since. Nowadays, it can also be used for many other things, including:
- serving a website
- writing desktop and mobile applications
- controlling robots and smart devices
- automating your desktop
- visualizing data
- creating games
We use Mozilla Foundation's documentation as our main reference because Mozilla is the official manager of JavaScript and because this documentation is more oriented towards developers rather than ECMAScript's really long PDF file.

JavaScript study groups are usually held on the first Saturday of every month. Everyone is welcome to join, learn, and share their knowledge in the community. Please RSVP at our Meetup page.
Everyone joining this study group and other Women Who Code events must follow our code of conduct.
Please bring a laptop with the following software installed:
- Your favorite programming text editor. If you are new to programming and do not have a favorite yet, we suggest Atom.
- Git. For Windows, we recommend TortoiseGit. For Linux and OS X, please follow the instructions in their respective links.
- Gitter Chat: Interact with the community. You can share something about JavaScript, or ask help if you're stuck on a problem.
- Meetup: Get updated with the upcoming study group and other event schedules.
- Facebook: Get updated about what's happening with the community.
- Twitter: Get updates about current and future events.
- Coding Resources | Women Who Code: Browse through various tutorials, books, and other coding resources to help you further your learning.
