Core is slowly moving away from jQuery, Backbone and Underscore.js and towards React and Redux instead.

Being able to use React and to re-use some of the packages and foundations laid by Gutenberg would certainly have some advantages.

We are closer to WordPress core by using the same technologies
Easier and more robust JavaScript internationalization
We could use existing packages for REST API calls for the admin menu (see Use the REST API #44)
More lightweight footprint
Big ecosystem
