Empty sidebar after first load of new student #2609

Workaround
I can get around this by refreshing the page after student creation, but this is an interesting first time experience.

Steps to reproduce

Create a new student
Give them any of degree, major, etc
Hit "Let's Go!"
Try to expand the sidebar containers with "degrees", "majors", etc
Notice they are forever in a loading state
