It depends on where Waterfox stores configuration files, etc. If it stores them in the same folder as Firefox, i.e. under .mozilla or /usr/lib/mozilla, the normal backend should work. If not - assuming Waterfox works the same way as Firefox - we need to copy the native messaging host manifest for Pywalfox into the appropriate folder. In that case, we would need to add support for it in the backend in order for the installer to work.
I saw that Librewolf users have to use an experimental backend, would it be needed for Waterfox too?
