Sign-up spins on confirmation

Went into sign-up-with-email flow on my iPad. When I hit "Sign Up", I got a progress spinner on the button that spun for minutes. The account was successfully created, but it took a couple of minutes (literally) to sign me in.

Expected: Can input data into all the fields and hit Sign Up, at which point it signs me up and immediately signs me in.

There may have been network issues at the time this was tested, or an API issue. Checking this.
